Series Europa DIN Connectors
Manufactured by Ravioli since 1981, Series Europa twin connectors link motors, batteries and battery chargers on forklifts, aerial platforms, sweepers and scrubbers, waste collection vehicles, golf cars, AGVs and mobile robots, airport caddies and cranes with lithium batteries.
The connectors comply with DIN VDE 0623-589, which defines unified distances between centres and coupling dimensions and is the evolution of the former DIN 43589 and FEM 4007a/b norms, so they are interchangeable with other connectors to the same norm. Each model consists of a plug and a socket, different from each other and both prepared for fitting a handle.
The 80, 160 and 320 A housings come in two versions: shock-resistant (black) for applications requiring high resistance against shocks, and acid-proof polymer (grey) for applications needing elevated resistance against acid. To meet faster charging and higher currents, the range has been widened with the new 640 A DIN bipolar connector for larger machinery.
Main contacts are silver-plated electrolytic copper against corrosion. The standard balanced cable clamp ensures IP23 on the coupled connectors. A voltage coding pin (24-36-48-72-80-96 V) ensures that only plugs and sockets of the same voltage are connected: grey pin for wet batteries, yellow universal, green for dry or gel batteries.
Up to 4 auxiliary contacts — 2 primary and 2 secondary, 20 A with advance opening compared to the main contacts — can be fitted to plugs and sockets. Where battery electrolyte must be mixed through air, a pair of air tubes with 6 or 8 mm internal diameter (Air Tech System) can replace the primary auxiliary contacts.
